The Oil and Fat Production industry extracts oils and fats from oilseed crops like rapeseed, sunflower seeds and palm fruits, as well as producing non-edible animal fats. The only difference between oils and fats is that the former are liquid at room temperature, but the latter are solid. Oils and fats have a wide variety of applications and are used as food ingredients, industrial lubricants and sources of biodiesel. Overall demand for the industry's products for food purposes remains relatively constant, but industry revenue is affected by the price of oilseed inputs and global demand conditions.
Industry operators process oils and manufacture crude and refined vegetable oils. They also manufacture non-edible animal oils and fats, extract fish oils and process the residual products of oil production. The industry does not cover rendering and refining lard and other edible animal fats, manufacturing margarine and corn oil or manufacturing essential oils.
The report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecast, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
