Although Australia is the world's largest producer of bauxite and a substantial producer of alumina, it ranks about fifth in terms of global aluminium output.
The Aluminium Smelting industry is expected to generate revenue of about $5.8 billion in 2012-13, compared with $9.16 billion in 2007-08 (a fall of 8.7% per year). The decline primarily reflects much lower aluminium prices over that period. A modest rebound in US dollar prices forecast for 2012-13, combined with a somewhat weaker Australian dollar is expected to more than offset lower output, underpinning a revenue gain of 2.9% that year.
Firms in this industry smelt alumina to produce aluminium and also reprocess scrap aluminium.
The report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecast, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
