About Butler Group

Businesses must take complete responsibility for the full and proper protection of the information that they hold, but at the same time that information has little value unless it is openly available to users who have the correct access rights. To keep up with todayâ??s ever-evolving information-access landscape, Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions must provide the unchallengeable ability to control, define, and prove the access credentials of all groups and individual systems users, irrespective of their source or location. Many of the latest technology advances and business usage demands are forcing change on the systems dynamics of identity management and its access control capabilities. All of which, means that some of the long-standing, tried-and-trusted IAM solutions on the market today look as though they are struggling to remain fit for purpose. Some very large vendors are getting out of the IAM arena. Whilst others are responding by moving in the opposite direction and extending their solutions to meet the latest business demands which include: increased use of Web and secure remote access facilities; inter-company requirements for federated information sharing and user management; extended fraud protection; and ever-increasing regulatory demands. KEY FINDINGS- The requirement to provide Web and remote user access to an extremely diverse range of information systems is one of the main driving forces behind the need for the latest generation of IAM-based protection systems.- Business must take complete responsibility for the full and proper protection of the information that it holds, but that information must remain openly available to users who have the correct access rights.- Operational complexity precludes organisations of any size from knowing the vast majority of their information users. Therefore, access to business systems needs to be managed using rules and controls that can be fully aligned to the operational requirements of the organisation.- The delivery of fully featured IAM involves marrying together infrastructure, technology, and systems controls that start at the endpoint with Web and remote access clients and extends all the way through to controlling user access in the back office.- Organisations must ensure that IAM protection is appropriate to the possible loss that could arise from their assets being compromised or lost.- IAM is used to address both identity-related problems and some of the many business issues that arise due to factors such as working practices, regulation, and legislation.- In todayâ??s technology-driven business environments, to be effective and stay safe, opportunities and threats have to be addressed very rapidly, especially where operations involve federated partnerships with other organisations.- Vendor consolidation has been a major change factor in the IAM market. Butler Group believes that organisations, as current or potential IAM customers, must be aware of the market positioning of their suppliers.- Whatever latest technology is used to provide users with Web-based access to business systems, there is no getting away from the need to use secure identity- and activity-driven services to control systems access and usage.- Extending access to corporate systems and the information that they hold to an ever-growing range of remote and mobile workers adds additional risk to everyday business operations.
