Abstract:

Our core North Sea oil and gas production forecasts remain unchanged by the uncertainty created from the UK s Brexit vote. This is predominantly down to the strong pipeline of projects due to come onstream over the coming few years, driven by investment under a period of higher oil prices (---------). ...The British exit from the EU increases the likelihood that Scotland will have another independence referendum and vote to leave the UK. If Scotland was to leave the UK, assuming maritime boundaries were drawn along the existing median line used to allocate fishing rights, it would take with it around -- of oil production and -- of gas production, according to ---- Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) statistics. The most prospective oil and gas regions in the UK, such as West of Shetlands, would also be located in Scottish waters. ...Shell has stakes in a number of producing assets such as the Brent, Pierce and

...Our already bearish view for North Sea oil and gas exploration has only been compounded by the investor uncertainty surrounding the terms of the UK s departure from the EU. The possibility of a Scottish secession means that the fiscal and regulatory framework might change, resulting in ---- performing worse than the woeful exploratory efforts of ----. ...The impact of the tax reductions for all E&Ps operating in the North Sea will have a negligible impact on exploration levels as companies focus on maximising production rather than expanding their resource base. The British parliament passed regulations permitting drilling underneath protected areas that include national parks, Areas of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB), the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads and World Heritage Sites. Companies will be allowed to drill wellheads outside of protected areas and drill horizontally beneath the parks at a minimum depth of -,---m. ...The British parliament passed regulations permitting drilling underneath protected areas that include national parks, Areas of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB), the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads and World Heritage Sites. Companies will be allowed to drill wellheads outside of protected areas and drill horizontally beneath the parks at a minimum depth of -,---m.

...Continued decline in oil and gas production past ---- could lead to an inflated energy import bill. Rising E&P costs could see investment increase without a corresponding rise in total output. The strong recent decline in oil prices is an immediate threat to current and future oil exploration and development projects. Uncertain geology and time-consuming application process for hydraulic fracturing permits could temper shale gas efforts in the medium term. There is great uncertain regarding the terms and the consequences of the UK s departure from the EU. ...
