Abstract:

The political and security situation in Turkey following the attempted coup has weakened an already mixed Operational Risk profile, and we believe this will weigh on IT market growth in ---- and ----. Turkey s economic position prior to the coup attempt of July --/-- was already fairly precarious. ...The government in Turkey has already shown willingness to interfere in web services, including temporary bans on YouTube and Twitter on several occasions since ----, and this could again become an issue if the political environment weakens. BMI also highlights the potential downside of the government s targeting of the electronics trade as a means by which to strengthen its current account and reduce reliance on external financing, despite assurances in August ---- that the government would not implement higher customs on tablet and smartphone imports. A deterioration in the global economy would leave Turkey vulnerable, and as such, despite assurances, we believe the prospect of higher import taxes cannot be fully discounted in ----. Previously, in July ----, Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci had stated that a customs tax, expected in the range of ----- , would be implemented in Turkey. ...Computer Hardware: Forecast growth from TRY--.-bn in ---- to TRY--.-bn in ----, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -.- . Uncertainty and a weaker purchasing power growth forecast resulted in a downgrade following the coup attempt, but there is still potential in the hardware segment where PC penetration is lower than in developed markets. ...Computer Hardware: Forecast growth from TRY--.-bn in ---- to TRY--.-bn in ----, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -.- . Uncertainty and a weaker purchasing power growth forecast resulted in a downgrade following the coup attempt, but there is still potential in the hardware segment where PC penetration is lower than in developed markets. Software: Predicted growth of TRY-.-bn in ---- to TRY-.-bn in ----, at a CAGR of -.- . ...Services: CAGR of --.- over ---------, increasing from TRY-.-bn in ---- to TRY-.-bn in ----. Wider adoption of cloud computing and outsourcing services will make IT services the outperforming segment over the medium term.

...Attempted coup in July ---- has increased uncertainty, resulting in a softer economic outlook and weaker lira forecast. Tablet sales are in decline in the face of competition from phablets, and this downside could extend further to general PC sales as smartphones become more powerful. ...
