Turkey is the largest sugar producer in the Middle East and one of the world s largest sugar beet producers. In this quarterly update we have revised down our forecast for ----/-- sugar production, as recent historical data from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) indicates production has fallen because of extensive droughts. ...Turkey is the largest sugar producer in the Middle East and one of the world s largest sugar beet producers. Growth over our forecast period will be due to higher yields owing to favourable weather leading to high polarity rates (the amount of sugar that can be extracted from a sugar beet). ...We believe that there is a need for Turkey to alter its sugar production quota significantly over the next five years, as industrial sugar use and consumption of sugar is set to rise. Our optimistic growth outlook is contingent on effective implementation of sugar reforms and efficiency gains.
