About This Report

Abstract:

While rewards from offshore Tunisia will be comparatively small from a regional perspective, the country s favourable business environment, political stability and good economic growth compare favourably to most of its North African neighbours. Its investor-friendly government has built strong ties with major international oil companies, which may be looking for more dependable returns than less reliable politically stable countries such as Libya (see New Gas Insufficient To Stem Natural Decline , June -- ----). ...During a production test, the Cat-- well flowed, constrained by surface facilities, at a rate of -,--- barrels of oil a day and ---,--- cubic metres of natural gas a day. Following the CAT-- discovery, Mazarine and ETAP submitted a Plan of Development which was finalised in Q--- and approved by Comite Consultatif des Hydrocarbues on May -. Serinus Energy has reported positive preliminary results from the Winstar---bis well on the Sabria field onshore Western Tunisia, close to the Algerian border. The well, drilled to a total depth of -,---m encountered --m of oil bearing reservoirs in the Upper Harma, Lower Hamra and El Atchane formations. ...Should pressure and production prove satisfactory, the company will quickly be able to tie-in the well into the Sabria Central Processing Facility.

...Exploration is yielding positive results in Tunisia despite limited resource potential. While it is unlikely the country will rid itself of hydrocarbon imports in the coming years, this trend supports greater exploration and production activity over the long term. ...The country s production levels have been decreasing gradually since ----, when it peaked at --,---b/d. While new conventional fields coming online will support Tunisian oil output over the next four years, they will not be able to compensate for gradual production decline from maturing fields across our forecast period. Following the CAT-- discovery, Mazarine and ETAP submitted a Plan of Development which was finalised in Q--- and approved by Comite Consultatif des Hydrocarbues on May -, ----. ...We have upgraded Tunisia s refined fuels consumption outlook this quarter on the back of a more robust economic growth over the coming years than previously expected. This will promote greater consumption of refined fuels with consumption set to increase at y-o-y average of -.- over the --------- period.

...Tunisia has small and declining oil and gas reserves. In ----, the country s proven oil reserves were estimated at ---mn bbl, while its gas reserves stood at --.-bcm. ...
