Abstract:

We have revised the forecasted date for when we expect the --- megawatt (MW) Mchuchuma coal-fired power plant to come online. This is due to some project delays and the start of construction being pushed back to ----. ...We are maintaining our forecasts for Tanzania s hydropower generation. We expect Tanzanian hydropower generation to increase back to ---- levels at -.- terawatt hours (TWh) before the lower rainfall, while no increase in capacity is currently forecast as we do not see sufficient evidence of hydropower projects progressing. The Tanzanian government has received a loan of USD---mn for its rural electrification plan. ...The Tanzanian government has stated that it will sign a ---MW electricity purchase deal with Ethiopia before the end of ----. This will reportedly be followed by construction of transmission facilities to aid the increased imports.

...The discovery of large gas reserves throughout Tanzania means that thermal power generation growth will be driven by new gas-fired capacity. Throughout our ---year forecast period, thermal generation in Tanzania will increase from -.- terawatt hours (TWh) in ---- up to over -.-TWh in ----, at an average yearly increase of --.- . ...This is mostly due to the ---MW Mchuchuma coal-fired power plant, which we forecast to come online in ----, which will increase the share of coal-fired power to over --.- of thermal power generation. The granting of the Rukwa mining licence to Edenville Energy - which is currently in talks with TANESCO for a PPA - means that the ---MW Rukwa coal-fired power plant is also on our radar for a future development, and we will add it to our forecasts once we have a timeline for the construction of the plant. However, through the long term past our ---year forecast period, we maintain that the majority of investment will be focused on gas-fired power plants. The abundance of natural gas and the high emissions from coal-fired power will mean that natural gas remains the more attractive option.

...We have revised the forecasted date for when we expect the --- megawatt (MW) Mchuchuma coal-fired power plant to come online. This is due to some project delays and the start of construction being pushed back to ----. ...
