Abstract:

The Swedish government s decision to phase out its tax on nuclear power generation by ---- aligns with our view that it would eventually backtrack in order to ensure the continued viability of the segment. That said, we still expect the three ageing nuclear reactors to be phased out by ---- - with the final decision having been taken by utilities E.ON and Vattenfall. ...As an extension of a nuclear phase-down, biomass will play an increasingly important role in Sweden s power mix over the next decade. The country s well-established forestry sector and biomass high leverage in the heating sector will mean the sector will mean that the potential for combined heat and power (CHP) facilities pose an upside to our ---year biomass forecast. We currently forecast biomass- fired power generation to expand by an annual average of -.- between ---- and ----. Sweden and Norway has expanded its funding for the renewable energy certificate scheme from supporting --.-TWh of new renewables power generation by ---- to --.-TWh. This is the result of Sweden implementing the removal of the power generation tax exemption for wind power - which was Norway s main condition for expanding the scheme (due to investment having been favouring Sweden due to favourable tax regulation).

...Conversely, solar capacity below ---kW will now be exempt from this self-consumption tax. The former taxation mechanism meant that once power was fed in from a small solar power installation - all self- consumed power would also automatically be taxed. ...Sweden and Norway have expanded their funding for the renewable energy certificate (REC) scheme from supporting --.-TWh of new renewables power generation by ---- to --.-TWh. This is the result of Sweden s removing the power generation tax exemption for wind power - which was Norway s main condition for expanding the scheme (due to investment having been favouring Sweden due to favourable tax regulation). We have, therefore, marginally revised our wind power capacity forecast downwards to an annual average capacity growth of -.- between ---- and ----. ...This is the result of Sweden s removing the power generation tax exemption for wind power - which was Norway s main condition for expanding the scheme (due to investment having been favouring Sweden due to favourable tax regulation). ... Business Monitor International Ltd Page -- nuclear power, we maintain our view that the three reactors - Ringhals - & - and Oskarshamn - - will be phased out according to schedule due to old age and final phase-down decisions having been made. While this means that other capacity will not be phased-out prematurely, we have earlier argued that this would be a likely outcome due to the importance of nuclear as a baseload source of power in the Swedish and Nord Pool power mixes. ...
