Abstract:

After T-Mobile shed more than -mn subscriptions in Q--- with little impact on revenues, it became clear large numbers of inactive subscriptions are still being retained by operators. T-Mobile and Polkomtel posted further subscriber losses in the first half of ----, but this is being offset by growth at Orange and P-. ...The heavy prices bid for -G spectrum in early ---- will weigh on operators infrastructure investment appetites in the medium term, presenting a drag on our bullish outlook. The merger of Midas wholesale mobile business with the retail operations of Polkomtel would also colour market development momentum over the long term as the former s spectrum may well be used to augment the Polsat group s broadband and TV businesses. By end-----, we estimate -G/-G subscriptions should exceed --.--mn, or more than --.- of the total market. ...By end-----, we estimate -G/-G subscriptions should exceed --.--mn, or more than --.- of the total market. ...There were --.---mn mobile subscriptions in Poland at the end of ----, yielding a penetration rate of ---.- . We believe the actual penetration rate is much lower, however, as operators continue to hold on to inactive subscriptions accrued through promotional campaigns and the shift towards multi-service offerings. ...Operators will increasingly need to focus on the quality of subscriptions to boost ARPUs, which will be the greater measure of operator and market development over the medium term. P- outperformed in ----, recording very strong uptake of -G and non-voice services; this trend is being echoed by Orange and Polkomtel as a result of their deep connection to the wireline broadband/pay-TV markets. -G/-G subscriptions will grow to --.---mn by the end of ---- and to --.---mn by the end of ----, at more than ...
