Abstract:

Philippines are prepared to take necessary steps to develop and promote its shipping industry on a global stage. Investment to Combat Congestion Concerns: The threat of congestion, although not highly evident in ----, remains for Philippine ports. ...This included tractors, reachstackers and cranes increasing time efficiency and general terminal performance. In addition, an electronic platform for booking containers will be launched in October aiming to optimise containerised cargo handling and help in servicing anticipated increased shipments due to the holiday season. Furthermore, the Port of Cebu has also been investing, with additional yard space expected in ---- and plans for a new container terminal with higher handling capacity in an advanced stage. As with the policy changes previously mentioned, the country is also implementing infrastructure enhancements to improve the competiveness of the shipping sector. With growth in trade to continue over the medium term, the challenge is to execute the needed developments in time to accommodate this growth.
