The government has partnered with foreign governments, international organisations and private firms to address the issue of food security and to increase the amount of arable land under cultivation. Extensive agricultural growth has been a key factor in reducing rural poverty, which has declined substantially over the last decade; crop diversification and an expansion in the amount of land under cultivation have both contributed.
