Abstract:

We envisage IT spending growth of -.- in ---- to a total of MYR--.--bn. The US dollar outlook was also downgraded after our Malaysia Country Risk team took a more bearish stance on the ringgit, with depreciation to an average of MYR-.-/USD forecast. ...We had previously forecast a rebound in hardware demand due to appreciation in ----, but this is now expected to occur from ----. Depreciation erodes Malaysian purchasing power for imported products and solutions that are predominantly priced in dollars, and as a result currency movements in ---- will again see households and enterprises substitute for cheaper options, and to a lesser extent defer purchases. While ringgit depreciation will continue to be a squeeze, in the hardware segment product cycles will become more favourable in ----, supporting a return to local currency demand growth. ...While ringgit depreciation will continue to be a squeeze, in the hardware segment product cycles will become more favourable in ----, supporting a return to local currency demand growth.
