About This Report

Abstract:

MKT s replacement of its legacy copper network with a next-generation access network (NGAN) enables it to offer more complex multiplay service packages directly to retail customers. It also enables the company to become a more dynamic provider of wholesale services, facilitating stronger offerings from alternative providers. However, much of this growth will be achieved through the cannibalisation of existing user bases. The wireline voice telephony market is declining, even allowing for increased take-up of VoIP services on the incumbent s NGAN and augmented cable TV networks. Slow growth of the wireline broadband market will, in part, arise from the decommissioning of ageing infrastructure. ...With the competitive landscape reduced to two networks and a handful of sub-brands and MVNOs, the emphasis will be on migrating customers to -G/-G networks. Even so, expansion of the -G/-G userbase will be modest owing to weak consumer spending power.

...There were -.---mn mobile subscribers in Macedonia at the end of ----, a small increase year-on-year (y- o-y). Modest annual increases will be seen through to early ----, but the underlying trend will be of the surviving operators eliminating inactive accounts and focusing on upgrading customers to higher-value postpaid and data-centric plans. ...There were -.---mn mobile subscribers in Macedonia at the end of ----, a small increase year-on-year (y- o-y). Modest annual increases will be seen through to early ----, but the underlying trend will be of the surviving operators eliminating inactive accounts and focusing on upgrading customers to higher-value postpaid and data-centric plans. The launch of the country s first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in Q--- provided a welcome boost to growth during ----/--, targeting the lower end of the market passed over by the network operators. The merger of ONE and VIP at the end of ---- introduces a new competitive dynamic, with VIP unlikely to continue nurturing ONE s low-value customer base for long. The MVNOs should do well to capture disaffected former ONE customers, offsetting volatile customer growth at the incumbents.

...There are no actual data regarding -G service adoption in Macedonia, although AEC tracks numbers of mobile internet connections using -G and -G services. We use this as a proxy for assumptions of broader -G/-G adoption. ...
