Construction, to be carried out by Kenya Electricity Generating Company, is expected to start in July ----, with grid connection anticipated by end-----. ...The --.-MW Kinangop wind project was shelved in February ----. The USD---.-mn project was scheduled to be completed by mid-----, but the delay caused by the local protests has reportedly led to the depletion of project funds.

...Providing a stable and reliable power supply and lowering the cost of electricity are key priorities for the Kenyan government, as inefficiencies within the power sector and an overreliance on hydropower and diesel electricity generation continue to hinder economic growth in the country. This problem is exacerbated when projected electricity consumption is taken into consideration, as we expect power demand to increase by an annual average of -.- between ---- and ----. Macroeconomic and demographic fundamentals are underpinning this high growth in electricity consumption, as well as progress with electrification rates. That said, we believe the Kenyan government is taking decisive steps to tackle the issues in its domestic power industry, and this strong commitment to reform will significantly improve the long-term prospects of the Kenyan power sector - and by extension the country s economy.
