Abstract:

We maintain our positive -G/-G outlook and forecast ---.--mn -G and -G subscribers by end----- in this quarterly update. The Japanese government has mandated that all new smartphones sold from May ---- should have their SIMs unlocked if requested by the customer. In the short term this would not have a significant impact on the mobile network operators (MNOs) as most of their customers are postpaid with contracts of up to two years. Mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) would be the principal beneficiaries in the short term as their business models are already built around low monthly prices by offering tailored plans that target customers of MNOs who do not use the majority of their flat-rate postpaid plans. -G subscriptions have peaked and are on the decline as -G LTE takes over the market. ...-G subscriptions have peaked and are on the decline as -G LTE takes over the market.
