Abstract:

Wind power comprised -- of Danish power in ----, which is the highest share registered in any global power mix over the space of one year. The massive influx of subsidised wind power has however led to Denmark having the highest retail electricity prices in Europe - as consumers pay for the subsidy through the Public Service Obligation (PSO) surcharge. ...The IPO was approved in September ---- after years of delays and is expected to take -- months. We maintain a relatively robust outlook for biomass power for this quarter, as we expect government aims to expand cleaner sources of baseload power, in order to curb carbon emissions and balance intermittent wind power, will boost growth in the segment. This dynamic will be reinforced by thermal power generators increasingly considering converting their power plants from hydrocarbon feedstock to biomass in order to enter positive margin territory. ...We maintain a relatively robust outlook for biomass power for this quarter, as we expect government aims to expand cleaner sources of baseload power, in order to curb carbon emissions and balance intermittent wind power, will boost growth in the segment. ...As such, the government has made several moves in order to curb the uptake of subsidised renewables over the recent month: Closure Of The --/-- Solar Scheme: The scheme, which is one of several domestic schemes for solar power, registered -GW worth of applications over April ----. According to the government this interest was unexpected, and the Danish Energy Minister Lars Lilleholt urgently introduced a bill in May in order to stop the mechanism. ...Planned Cancellation Of Nearshore Wind Tenders: This series of five tenders was intended to award a total of ---MW of offshore wind capacity. The reason given for the planned cancellation is that the government wants to reduce the Public Service Obligation (PSO) - which supports the country s renewables sector. Already in ----, the current government and the main opposition agreed to aim to cut the PSO by DKK--.-bn (EUR-.-bn). ...Already in ----, the current government and the main opposition agreed to aim to cut the PSO by DKK--.-bn (EUR-.-bn). This suggests that there is a cross-party consensus to lower retail electricity prices - aligning with a broader move to curb subsidy costs.

...We stress the Danish target, even if watered down, is one of the most ambitious emissions cut targets in the EU.He also aims to reduce the Pubic Service Obligation (PSO) surcharge, which transfers the cost of renewables subsidies onto the retail electricity price. ...We stress the Danish target, even if watered down, is one of the most ambitious emissions cut targets in the EU.He also aims to reduce the Pubic Service Obligation (PSO) surcharge, which transfers the cost of renewables subsidies onto the retail electricity price. This more austere strategy entails cancellation plans for Denmark s ---MW near-shore wind tender. ...
