About This Report

In ----, we expect arrivals to grow by -.- to -.-mn. This is a slight slowdown from growth of -.- in ---- though still represents a good level of growth. ...Adding to the encouraging outlook, arrivals from Europe will grow by -.- in ----, to ---,---. Costa Rica s long-standing political and social stability continues to be a major asset, particularly given the high levels of violence in Mexico, and we do not expect stability to deteriorate over the medium term, supporting our positive outlook for Costa Rica s overall tourism market. We see arrivals growth peaking in ---------, then slowing over the rest of the forecast period to ----. ...Costa Rica s presidential and legislative elections will be held in ----, but the country s strong tradition of stability and democratic transfer of power means that we do not anticipate any disruption to the tourist industry associated with the vote.

...Costa Rica is one of the most developed tourism markets in Central America, benefiting from considerable natural attractions and a stable political and security environment. This combination has not gone unnoticed by global hotel groups, which have been steadily expanding in the country. ...The government is well aware of the importance of the industry and is supporting it by carrying out transport infrastructure projects designed to increase ease of travel for tourists. We believe that in the long term this will improve ease of transport around the country, making it easier for both international and domestic tourists to explore new parts of the country. We see long-term value in the tourism sector on the Caribbean coast. Although this is minimal at present, we believe that the opening up of the region will lead to an expansion of hotel and resort opportunities. This is unlikely to begin in the short term as major hotel chains are likely to wait for the transport infrastructure projects in the region to be completed before launching major investments in the Caribbean.
