Abstract:

We believe that some extent of the decline can be attributed to China Unicom s change in reporting style, which saw only revenue-generating mobile billing subscriptions reported instead, and this led to a -.- reduction in its subscriber base from Q--- figures. On the other hand, China Mobile and China Telecom both saw positive net additions to their mobile subscriber count in the quarter. ...However, the gains in -G/-G are being offset by periodic declines in -G, leading to much slower growth than previously forecast. We forecast -G/-G subscriptions to rise to -.-bn by the end of ---- on a back of this, for a penetration of --.- . ...In particular, FTTH/O was a key driver with subscriptions reaching ---.-mn in May ----, a ---.- increase y-o-y. We now forecast ---.-mn broadband subscriptions by end-----, for a penetration rate of --.- .

...Average quarterly net additions are on the decline the result of several trends playing out in the market including approaching maturity, saturation in urban markets and a focus by operators on upgrading existing subscribers to data services.
