...The Chinese government is giving more protection and encouragement to the private sector, which is the most dynamic in the economy and accounts for most of the country s job growth. China is trying to introduce best practices into its tendering and project management anti-corruption systems. Deregulation in certain sectors where foreign expertise is needed has created opportunities for foreign investors in areas such as wind and nuclear. The transmission and distribution sector is expected to attract significant attention in the coming years, as plans to develop ultra-high voltage power transmission lines and smart grids start to materialise. The country has sizeable coal reserves, and gas reserves have increased due to technological improvements such as fracking. There is upside potential for growth in electricity consumption, as the current outlook is clouded by weak macroeconomic factors.
