Abstract:

Neither the introduction of number portability nor the launch of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) has provided the springboard for organic growth that the government had hoped for. The two lone MVNOs are owned by Telekom Slovenije, a financially-troubled government-owned entity that is gradually offloading its overseas operations in a bid to improve its attractiveness on the privatisation block. We believe that, under a stronger owner, the MVNOs could still provide the basis for market expansion. Population growth, the expansion of -G and -G services, price reductions, a broader range of bundles and cheaper smartphones and tablets will encourage more consumers to enter the market in the latter stages of our five-year forecast. This will be sustained by operators investments in higher-value services, led by mobile data and rich media offerings such as streaming video and gaming. ...As operators slowly expand outside their historical concession areas, so they will need to undercut their rivals prices.

...The number of mobile subscriptions will decline in the short term due to a diminished need for multiple SIMs and more rigorous SIM registration. A modest longer-term recovery is forecast as operators break out of concession areas and offer more appealing services. ...We expect voice accesses to number ---,--- by the end of ----. Demand for wireline connections will remain as customers retain xDSL and cable connections for home broadband services and FTTx networks continue to be built out. Mobile broadband will also keep the market buoyant, with total broadband accesses predicted to reach ---,--- by ----. ...Demand for wireline connections will remain as customers retain xDSL and cable connections for home broadband services and FTTx networks continue to be built out. Mobile broadband will also keep the market buoyant, with total broadband accesses predicted to reach ---,--- by ----.

...BMI View: Bosnia s telecoms market suffers from a lack of consumer choice as the three operators confine themselves to their regional footprints. The inadequacies of the wireline networks ensure that usage of mobile networks is high, and the operators have capitalised on demand for good enough mobile alternatives to wireline by keeping prices relatively high. ...
