...Argentina s power mix remains heavily reliant on expensive thermal imports, chiefly gas and unreliable hydropower. As such, the government is keen to diversify its electricity mix to include alternative sources. Despite these government s ambitions, the country s non-hydro renewables industry has been largely dormant over the past few years due to lack of project financing availability and erratic macroeconomic governance. Indeed, Argentina has been shunned by the main international developers of renewables projects due to heavy government intervention on electricity tariffs and a generally unattractive business environment, with recent expansion in the sector mostly relying on Chinese investment (see Chinese Investment Poses Upside Risk To Wind Outlook , February -- ----).
