NEW YORK (S&P Global Ratings) July 12, 2018--The 2018 global corporate default tally rose to 49 after one confidential issuer from the emerging markets region defaulted this week, said S&P Global Fixed Income Research today in an article titled "Corporate Defaults From Emerging Markets Have Tripled In 2018." At the same point in 2017, the default tally had reached 57. "Although the overall global default tally is lower than it was at the same point in 2017, defaults in the emerging markets have tripled so far in 2018, at 10, compared with just three in the same period last year," said Diane Vazza, head of S&P Global Fixed Income Research.
