| Abstract: | The ratings on French banking group BNP Paribas reflect its strong and highly diversified business profile, sound financial position, good management, and moderate risk appetite. The ratings are constrained by the group's very large credit portfolio and sizable capital market operations that leave it exposed to the current global economic downturn and market volatility. We view BNP Paribas as having high systemic importance in France, which we classify as a supportive country under our ratings approach. Our credit ratings on systematically important private sector banks in France benefit from the government's systemwide support.
