Abstract: Although there is a wide range of growth rates prevalent across the Asia-Pacific, and countries are at different stages in their interest-rate cycles, the common characteristic of the region can best be described as steadiness. The growth outlooks for the region over 2007 and 2008, broadly speaking, do not suggest any dramatic changes from the performance during 2006 (see Table 1). Mainly as a result of the slowdown in the housing sector in 2007, growth in the U.S. is expected to slow to about 2.0%, compared with an expected growth rate of about 2.5% earlier in the year. The U.S. Federal Reserve Board has already responded strongly to the prospect of a slowdown by cutting its benchmark federal funds rate
