| Abstract: | On March 6, 2009, Standard&Poor's Ratings Services placed its 'A/A-1' counterparty ratings on U.K. bank Northern Rock PLC on CreditWatch with negative implications. The ratings on Northern Rock's senior unsecured and subordinated debt were similarly placed on CreditWatch with negative implications. The CreditWatch placement reflects our view of the statements issued by Northern Rock and the U.K. government on Feb. 23, 2009 regarding the conclusions of Northern Rock's strategic review. Among other developments, the statements disclosed a planned legal and capital restructuring of Northern Rock once the European Commission has approved the government's proposed equity injection of up to £3 billion.
