| Abstract: | On Jan. 24, 2008, Standard&Poor's Ratings Services placed its 'AA' long-term counterparty credit rating on French bank Crédit du Nord S.A. and the 'AA-/A-1+' long- and short-term ratings on three of CDN's subsidiaries--Banque Rhône Alpes S.A., Banque Tarneaud S.A., and Banque Kolb S.A.--on CreditWatch with negative implications. At the same time, we affirmed the 'A-1+' short-term rating on CDN. These CreditWatch placements followed that on CDN's parent Societe Generale after the bank announced a €4.9 billion trading loss and a €2 billion write-down on its collateralized debt obligation and indirect bond insurer exposure.
