| Abstract: | The ratings assigned to Banc of America Alternative Loan Trust 2004-4's mortgage-backed pass-through certificates series 2004-4 (groups 1 through 4) are based on levels of credit enhancement that meet Standard & Poor's requirements given the quality of the loans, distribution of the mortgaged properties, and a legal structure designed to minimize the potential losses to investors caused by the originators' bankruptcy (see table 1). The certificates evidence an ownership interest in a trust fund consisting of six groups of fully amortizing, fixed-rate mortgage loans secured by first liens on one- to four-family properties.
