| Abstract: | Ever since the U.S. government gave Medicare beneficiaries the option of receiving their Medicare benefits through a private health plan, participating insurers have had to navigate the web of changing regulations. Some companies have been more successful at this than others. But for all players, Standard&Poor's Ratings Services believes that the Medicare Advantage (MA) marketplace is about to enter a new and more challenging environment. How effectively MA players adapt to the new environment will be a key surveillance issue for Standard&Poor's, with potential ratings implications in 2010 and beyond.
