BBVA Bancomer, S.A.: Semiannual Update - Credit Opinion – 2016/11/28 – US$ 250.00 – ...BBVA Bancomer, S.A.'s standalone baseline credit assessment (BCA) of baa2 reflects the bank's consistently robust earnings, supported by high operating efficiency and superior access to retail deposits. The bank's asset quality is sound notwithstanding rapid expansion and high levels of write-offs. Nevertheless, Moody's capitalization ratio for BBVA Bancomer remains considerably lower than that of other large Mexican banks and provides it with less loss absorption capacity. Also, high loan concentrations leave the bank exposed to a potential crystallization of rising medium-term tail risks in light of Mexico's less favorable economic environment, including the heightened uncertainty regarding trade policies from the upcoming U.S. administration. The bank's A3 deposit and senior debt ratings reflect Moody's assessment of a very high likelihood that the Mexican government would provide support should BBVA Bancomer face severe financial stress.
