(NYSE:MET; A/Stable/A-1) will remain unaffected by subsidiary MetLife Bank N.A.'s (NR) agreement to purchase the residential mortgage origination and servicing business of First Tennessee Bank National Assoc., a subsidiary of First Horizon National Corp. (NYSE:FHN; BBB+/Negative/--). The acquisition includes substantially all of the origination and approximately $20 billion of servicing assets of First Horizon, but excludes the existing portfolio of mortgage loans. MetLife Bank N.A. is also entering into a subservicing agreement for the remainder of First Horizon's first lien servicing portfolio, which is expected to total approximately $65 billion after closing. (A/Stable/A-1) will not be affected by MetLife's announced intention to divest its 52% interest in the Reinsurance Group of America Inc. (A-/Stable/--; RGA) through a tax-free split-off of RGA stock to MetLife stockholders. RGA is a multinational reinsurance company with more than $2.2 trillion in life insurance in force and about $22 billion in assets. Although RGA provided a level of stable earnings from primarily mortality based business, in aggregate the percentage contribution of these earnings to MetLife Inc. was limited in capacity constituting approximately 4% of the company's pretax operating income.
