The Group's principal activity is the retail of fine jewelry in North America. It operates in three segments: Fine Jewelry, Kiosk Jewelry and All Other. Fine Jewelry: operates under six brands; Zales Jewelers (R), Zales the Diamond Store Outlet(R), Gordon's Jewelers (R), Bailey Banks & Biddle Fine Jewelers(R), Mappins Jewellers(R) (Canada), Peoples Jewellers (Canada). Kiosk Jewelry: Operates under the name Piercing Pagoda (in the U.S.) and Peoples II (in Canada). All Other: Provides insurance and reinsurance facilities through Zale Indemnity Company, Zale Life Insurance Company and Jewel Re-Insurance Ltd. As on 31-Jul-2008, the Group operated 1,396 retail jewelry stores and 739 kiosks locations throughout the United States of America, Canada and Puerto Rico.
