The Group's principal activity is to provide managed care services to government-sponsored health care programs. It operates in two segments: Medicaid and Medicare. The Medicaid segment provides medical assistance to low income and disabled persons and includes plans for individuals for both Medicare and Medicaid and beneficiaries of the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program, Supplemental Security Income Program, S-CHIP and the Family Health Plus program. The Medicare segment provides eligible persons age 65 and over and some disabled persons, hospital, medical insurance and prescription drug benefits and also include plans such as stand-alone Prescription Drug plan and Medicare Advantage plans, which includes Coordinated Care plans, Private Fee For Service and Preferred Provider Organization plans. As of 31-Dec-2008, it served approximately 2.5 million members. The Group operates in the United States.
