It attracting savings deposits from the general public and investing these funds in loans secured by first lien mortgages on single-family dwellings, including loans for the construction of dwellings and loans on multi-family dwellings. It conducts its operations through a federally insured savings and loan association subsidiary, Washington Federal Savings and Loan Association. The Group also originates other types of loans for its portfolio and invests in the United States Government and agency obligations. In addition, it provides real estate development and insurance brokerage services. The Group operates through 135 offices in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas. On 13-Feb-2007, the Group acquired First Federal Banc of the Southwest Inc and on 02-Jul-2007, First Mutual Bancshares Inc. |
