| The Group's principal activity is the operation of a network air carrier through its wholly owned subsidiaries, US Airways, Piedmont Airlines Inc, PSA Airlines Inc, Material Services Company Inc, and Airways Assurance Ltd. The flight equipment of all these carriers is combined to form one fleet that is deployed through a single route scheduling system. The Group offers scheduled passenger service on approximately 3,800 flights daily to 230 communities in the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America and Europe. As of December 31, 2008, the Group operated 354 mainline jets and are supported by its regional airline subsidiaries and affiliates operating as US Airways Express either under capacity purchase or prorate agreements, which operate approximately 238 regional jets and 74 turboprops. |
