The Group's principal activities are mining for surface and underground coal, property regeneration and management. It operates in four segments: Deep mining, Surface mining, Property and Others. Deep mining operates four deep mines, located in Central and Northern England. Surface mining has five active coaling surface mines and planning consent to mine three further sites. The Group's Property segment has a portfolio of approximately 45,000 acres and has identified circa 3,700 net acres of this land as offering prime prospects for a mix of business park, residential, distribution and community development.
