The Group's principal activity is to manufacture circulatory support products for use by patients with congestive heart failure. It operates in two business segments: Cardiovascular and International Technidyne Corporation ("ITC"). The Cardiovascular segment develops, manufactures and markets proprietary medical devices used for circulatory support and vascular graft applications. The ITC segment designs, develops, manufactures and markets point-of-care diagnostic test systems. The products are used by physicians and hospitals for cardiac assist, vascular and diagnostic applications. The trademarks of the Group areThoratec, the Thoratec logo, Thoralon, TLC-II, HeartMate, and HeartMate II and IVAD. The Group has operations in Europe and other countries.
