It operates in three segments: SunOpta Food Group, Opta Minerals and SunOpta BioProcess. The SunOpta Food Group focuses on natural, organic and specialty foods markets. The Opta Minerals Group processes, sells and distributes silica-free loose abrasives, roofing granules, industrial minerals specialty sands, and recycles inorganic materials for the foundry, steel, roofing shingles and bridge- and ship-cleaning industries. The SunOpta BioProcess provides research and development and engineering services and owns numerous patents on its proprietary steam explosion technology. The Group operates in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Slovakia. In April 2008, the Group acquired The Organic Corporation BV. |
