The Group's principal activities are to develop, manufacture, sell and support advanced security equipment, mechanical seals, medical devices electronic and radio frequency products and engineered components. It operates in five divisions: Smiths Detection segment manufactures and sensors that detect and identify explosives, narcotics,weapons, chemical agents, biohazards and contraband, John Crane manufactures mechanical seals, seal support systems, engineered bearings, power transmission couplings and specialist filtration systems; Smiths Medical manufactures medication delivery systems, vital care products and safety devices that prevent needlestick injuries and reduce cross infection; Smiths Interconnect manufactures specialised electronic and radio frequency products and Flex-Tek manufactures engineered components that heat and move fluids and gases.
