The Group's principal activities are distribution, transmission, generation, purchase and sale of electric energy. The Group operates through three segments: NPC electric, SPPC electric and SPPC natural gas service. Electric service is provided to Las Vegas and surrounding Clark County, northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area of California through its subsidiary Nevada Power Company. Natural gas services are provided in the Reno-Sparks area of Nevada through its subsidiary Sierra Pacific Power Company. It rovides electric and natural gas services to a diverse mix of over one million residential, commercial, industrial and public sector customers. In October 2008, NPC acquired the Higgins Generating Station.
