The Group's principal activity is providing asset management and private banking services for institutional, retail and private clients. It has offices grouped under four regional management structures covering the United Kingdom, Americas, continental Europe and Asia Pacific. The Group operates through three business segments. Asset management comprises investment management including advisory services, property and other alternative assets. Private Banking comprises investment management and banking services provided to high net worth individuals and certain smaller institutions. Private Equity comprises the Group's investments in private equity, venture and buy-out funds and related vehicles. On 30-Sep-2008, it acquired E.Sun Securities Investment Trust Co. Ltd. As on 31-12-2008, the Group had 34 offices in 26 different countries.
