The Group's principal activities are to market and distribute food and related products to the food service industry. The Group's products and services are provided to approximately 400,000 customers including restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments, other foodservice customers. It operates in three segments: Broadline, SYGMA and Other. Broadline operating companies distribute a full line of food products and a wide variety of non-food products to its customers. SYGMA operating companies distribute a full line of food products and a wide variety of non-food products to chain restaurant customer locations. The other segments include specialty produce, custom-cut meat and lodging industry products segments. As of 26-Sep-2009, the Group operated 186 facilities throughout the United States and Canada.
