The Group's principal activities are exploration, development and production and sale of crude oil and gas and refining, transportation and sale of petroleum products. The Group operates in two basic segments Exploration and Production and Refining, Marketing and Distribution. The Exploration and Production segment involve the use of wells, related equipment and operating sites, oil gathering and treatment facilities, tank farms and in-field pipelines. The Refining, Marketing and Distribution segment covers refining operations, marine and other distribution terminals, and retail sales. The refining operations consist of major petrochemical operations and industrial complexes. The Group operates in all key hydrocarbon regions of Russia - West Siberia, Southern and Central Russia, Timan-Pechora, East Siberia and the Far East. The Group participates in exploration projects in Kazachstan, Algeria and Turkmenistan.
