The Group's principal activity is retail distributing of imported decorative home furnishings, gifts and related items. It imports merchandise directly from over 40 countries, and sell a wide variety of furniture collections, decorative accessories, bed and bath products, housewares and other seasonal assortments in its stores. The Group operates stores in the United States and Canada under the names 'Pier 1 Imports' and 'Pier 1 Kids'. Pier 1 Kids stores sell children's home furnishings and decorative accessories. It also has merchandise in 'store within a store' locations in Mexico and Puerto Rico that are operated by Sears Roebuck de Mexico S A de C V and Sears Roebuck de Puerto Rico Inc respectively. On February 28, 2009, the Company operated 1,011 Pier 1 Imports stores in the United States and 81 Pier 1 Imports stores in Canada.
