| The Group's principal activity is operating self-service retail stores selling clothes, general merchandise and supermarket items. It also operates a chain of members-only club stores under the name of "City Club" which sells wholesale and semi-wholesale goods. It also operates "Mercado" which offers the same products as the traditional retail stores on smaller sales area. In 2007, through its subsidiary Tiendas Soriana SA de CV, concluded negotiations with Gigante SA de CV by obtaining operating control from 1 January 2008, of 198 stores throughout Mexico. The Group owns 257 stores located throughout Mexico. |
