The Group's principal activity is to provide customized debt financing solutions to middle-market businesses, mid-sized specialty finance companies, issuers of asset-backed and commercial mortgage-backed securities and commercial real estate borrowers. It principally focuses on the direct origination of loans and other debt products. Direct origination provides direct access to its customers' managements, enhances its due diligence and allows significant input into customers' capital structures and direct negotiation of transaction pricing and terms. It is organized into three specialized lending groups: Middle Market Corporate, Structured Products and Commercial Real Estate. It originates structures and underwrites senior debt, subordinated debt for mid-sized specialty finance companies, first mortgage debt, subordinated debt, primarily to finance acquisitions of real estate properties and mezzanine debt for companies.
