| The Group's principal activities are to invest in health care related facilities and provide finance to health care providers. The Group operates as a real estate investment trust specializing in investments in health care related senior housing and long-term care properties. It make its investments by acquiring an ownership interest in facilities and leasing them to unaffiliated tenants under "triple-net" "master" leases that transfer the obligation for all facility operating costs to the tenants. As of 31-Mar-2008, it has investments in 571 healthcare facilities in 43 states, which includes direct ownership of 162 skilled nursing facilities, 250 assisted and independent living facilities, 51 mulit-tenant medical office buildings, 43 of which are operated by a consolidated joint venture, 6 triple-net medical office buildings, 10 continuing care retirement communities, 23 assets held for sale and 7 specialty hospitals. |
