The Group's principal activities are transmitting and distributing energy, and providing wireless infrastructure and other businesses in related markets. The Group's high-voltage transmission system consists approximately of 4,500 miles of overhead line, 415 miles of underground cable and 337 substations in the United Kingdom. The Group also operates an electricity transmission network of approximately 9,000 miles, that includes, around 8,900 miles of overhead lines, 94 miles of underground cables and 496 substations in the United States of America. It also owns, operates and develops a principal natural gas transportation system which consist primarily of 4,300 miles of underground high pressure gas pipelines and 24 compressor stations. The Group also provides communication infrastructure solutions to fibre and wireless which includes communications infrastructure, metering and interconnectors.
