The Group's principal activities are to publish newspapers which have similar economic characteristics, products, customers and distribution methods. The Group owns and publishes 30 daily newspapers and approximately 50 non-dailies in 29 markets across the country. Its newspapers range from large dailies serving metropolitan areas to non-daily newspapers serving small communities. The Group supplements its publishing with an array of niche products and direct marketing initiatives. The Group also operates leading local websites and regional online portals in each of its daily newspaper markets, offering its readers information, comprehensive news, advertising, e-commerce and other services. In 2008, it had an average paid daily circulation of 2,593,574 and Sunday circulation of 3,210,857. The Group operates in the United States.
