The Group's principal activity is to provide commercial and retail banking services in the United States. The services offered include trust, mortgage banking, asset management, insurance and other financial services. The Group provides services to individuals, corporations and other businesses and institutions. It also provides commercial and residential mortgage loans secured by income producing properties. As of 31-Dec-2008, the Group had two wholly owned bank subsidiaries: M&T Bank and M&T Bank, National Association. M&T Bank had 684 banking offices in New York State, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia and an office in the Cayman Islands.
